Bilfinger BergerKelowna and Vernon Hospitals, Canada

Nestled in the heart of the Okanagan, the Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals have been undergoing a transformation that will benefit residents of these picturesque areas by providing much needed space and upgraded facilities to each city.

A short 45 minute drive apart, each hospital will be linked to large towers that house new emergency departments, specialty clinics and surgical suites. Vernon’s Polson Tower will house a brand new Women’s Health floor which includes pediatrics and maternity. Kelowna’s Centennial Tower now has a new academic building for the University of British Columbia Medical School. Moving forward, shelled spaces that take up two floors within each tower are promised for future expansion.

Environmental issues have reached peak awareness around the globe and have found a voice and audience within Canada as well. The Canadian Green Building Council’s LEED rating system enables buildings within Canada to apply for and achieve certification. The Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals are looking to reach GOLD Certification and with geothermal systems for heating and cooling as well as outlets for recharging your electrical vehicles, these two towers are well on their way at paving the road to a more environmentally sound healthcare system within the Okanagan.
