Bilfinger BergerNorthern Territory Secure Facilities, Australia

The NTSF is a new correctional precinct located at Holtze, four kilometres north of Howard Springs in Darwin, Australia.  It is a purpose built facility to rehabilitate offenders and is a key element of the Government's new era in corrections.

The new facilities will allow NT Corrections to engage prisoners into structured daily programs in order to foster rehabilitation and stronger re-integration.

The NTSF project heralds a significant new approach to corrections in the Territory, it includes three separate centres, each with a different and complementary role in the broader corrections context:

  • A 1,000 bed multi-classification men and women's correctional centre to replace the existing outdated facilities at Berrimah.
  • A 30 bed secure mental health and behavioural management centre, a first of its kind in the Territory.
  • A 48 bed Supported Accommodation and Program Centre for community based offenders with facilities designed to support the government's goals of enhanced rehabilitation, education and reduced reoffending rates in the Territory.

The project will provide a real boost to the local economy with an estimated workforce of up to 1,000 people, including 70 full time jobs and approximately 19 new apprenticeships or traineeships.
