Bilfinger Berger Project Investments (BBPI) is part of a consortium awarded to design, build, finance and operate Australia’s first Availability Model based PPP: the Peninsula Link in Melbourne, Australia.
The Peninsula Link Freeway is a 27 km, 4 lane connection (2 lanes each way) between the Frankston Freeway-EastLink Interchange at Carrum Downs and the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Mount Martha, in Melbourne’s outer South-eastern suburbs. The development will consist of 35 bridges, on/off ramps to 11 roads including three freeway to freeway connections and 18,000m2 of retaining walls.
Incorporated into the design are 1.5 million new plants and trees along the Peninsula Link corridor to ensure the current flora and fauna environment is protected and improved. There will also be a new 22km shared walking and cycling track to cater for the community which will be the largest single addition to the Melbourne shared use path network.
Community engagement and environmental impact are of paramount focus, the scheme recognises both of these objectives through a partnership with the Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES) to teach local school children about environmental initiatives.
In another first for the Australian market, this project brings together BBPI with two of its Bilfinger Berger Australia counterparts, Abigroup Contractors and Bilfinger Berger Services Australia.
