A three party consortium co-lead by Bilfinger Berger BOT is responsible for the financing, construction and operation of a major new toll-road for Brisbane.
The RiverCity Motorway consortium is a partnership between Bilfinger Berger Project Investments, Baulderstone Hornibrook and Bilfinger Berger Services (two of the Bilfinger Berger Group's wholly owned Australian subsidiaries), and their two partners, Leighton Contractors and ABN AMRO.
Bilfinger Berger and its partners are combining their strengths and experience to design, build, finance and operate Brisbane's first privately financed toll-road.
The new road will connect north-south traffic under Brisbane, through dual twin lane tunnels, approximately 4.7km in length. This will significantly reduce surface traffic and enable a series of urban enhancements in adjacent suburbs.
This massive project is a challenging and complex undertaking. Multiple worksites are being established across the city and at the peak of construction up to 1,200 people will be directly required to work on the project.
The tunnel will be equipped with the latest in electronic tolling systems. When complete, the NSBT will be the longest and most technically advanced tunnel in Australia.
Construction began in September 2006, with the tunnel due to open in 2010.
